For The Last Samurai I was given the task of bringing the Samurai Village to life by Costume Designer Ngila Dickson. This required my setting up a workroom in Tokyo, where I worked with local artisans and costumers to manufacture and pull from local costume houses all the traditional Japanese clothing needed for the film. This gave me an opportunity to study and learn from a well respected sensei the fine art of how to dress all kimono.
Ngila Dickson received an Oscar nomination in 2003 for Costume Design for The Last Samurai
